There is big news in our world and I’ll get right to it.
I (Matt) am in the midst of moving to part-time Cru staff in order to launch my own company in partnership with a long-time friend (and former Cru staff).
As Jody and I have continued to follow the Lord’s leading in our life, we’ve had an increasingly louder desire to enter into the marketplace and live out the principles of faith and work that we’ve been teaching college students and now 20-somethings in Portland. We’ve seen first hand how important it is to integrate mission and vocation. We’ve been given a vision to bring the message of Christ to our city and this change allows us to have access to all different segments of our city that we wouldn’t have otherwise.
We are more committed than ever to seeing disciples of Christ raised up, leaders developed and those that don’t know Jesus engaged with the Gospel.
Just as the Lord expanded our hearts beyond the campus borders, he’s given us a heart (and inroads) into new areas within the marketplace. At the same time we are passionate about the vision of Cru to bring the good news of Jesus to our city and world and so thankful that Cru allows us to live out our calling by serving in both the marketplace and vocational ministry…we think it makes us better in both worlds and frees us up to live out our God-given strengths more.
We transition to part-time Cru staff as of May 1st. This status change allows me to work up to 25 official hours a week with Cru. Full-time Cru staff are not allowed to have outside income as per the specific 503c agreement Cru has with the IRS.
We continue to depend on the consistent financial giving of our amazing ministry partners to serve with the ministry of Cru. Our financial support needs will drop slightly as our salary lowers a bit, but in reality we are still dependent on your financial partnership to make ends meet and cover our ministry expenses like conferences, outreach, food supplies, etc. If you have questions about how your giving corresponds to this job change please let me know and I’m happy to walk your through the numbers.
My company is a web development and digital marketing company focused on small businesses. This allows me to interface with a whole new segment of our city population (tech and business leaders) and the flexibility I need to serve with Cru.
We’re so grateful for your prayers and partnership during this time. It’s been an exciting time, but slightly nerve-wracking as Jody and I have worked full-time with Cru for 16 years so it’s a big step of faith. We feel like the Lord is leading and we couldn’t be more committed to following him day by day.
