Two weeks from now students from every corner of the United States will land in Portland for the first ever Portland Summer Project with Cru. This has been a dream of mine (Matt) for a number of years and it’s a joy to see it come to fruition. The other day I was pleased to see this Facebook status update and picture from Laura, a student at Sam Houston State University, who will join us in Portland in June:
These summer project students will live on campus at Portland State University along with hundreds of international students. They will serve in some of the poorest neighborhoods in Portland and will gain valuable ministry training and equipping for a lifetime of ministry.
“I am SO overwhelmed and EXCITED about the things the Lord is going to do through me and for me!! I can’t believe it is a month away!!” -Laura
Your partnership allows Jody and I to help mobilize students like Laura in the city of Portland. What a privilege we have of seeing the Lord transform lives of these students so that they can serve Him for a lifetime. You are a consistent source of joy and encouragement as you pray and give faithfully for our ministry.
As we enter into the summer of 2014, we need to raise additional funding for our summer project expenses as well as the medical expenses we’re facing. Recently, Jody and our daughter Jenna were diagnosed with a genetic disorder that causes significant health issues. Expenses include additional medication, blood testing, doctors visits, etc. Our reality is that we have faced a shortfall in monthly support this year and in turn need additional funds to pay these unexpected bills. We are trusting the Lord to provide an additional $4500 in special gifts to help us make up the difference for the year.
May I ask you to specifically pray about giving a special gift of $100, $200, $300 to help with these expenses? You can give online right now if you’d like. If you would like to give a different way, please visit our giving page for all the options.
Whatever you decide, our deep appreciation for you is unwavering. We’re so grateful to the Lord for you.
