Lot’s of tears were shed in our household last week. It started with the shooting in the mall near our house. Yes, the Clackamas Mall is the shopping center that we do our Costco and Target runs at. To close to home. Then we received a call that one of our Cru staff couples was in the mall when the rampage took place. They hid out in a changing room, while the shots rang out and then snuck out through the back corridors. Scary.
Then the tragedy in Connecticut struck. Horrifying. We’ve held our little kindergarter and two year old a lot closer over the last couple of days and prayed for the families that experienced lost. I can’t even fathom the pain.
In the midst of these events our family celebrates the reality that God sent is Son into the world in very similar circumstances. With Herod killing small children try to take out the King of the Jews, the Son of God was born into a manger. Into the darkness light came. A rescuer came.
I long for the day when everything will be made right and there will be no more tears. I long for Jesus’ return. Until that day comes we labor to expand the Kingdom of God here on this planet, trusting Him to use us for his glory. Until that day, we cling to the fact that God became one of us to rescue the world and allow us to know Him.
May God bring peace and rest to you and your house this Christmas.
